Sun Face on white brick wall
This is my default scene for a quick test to see how good a lens performs through an aperture range. I usually do it on a tripod. For this test I did it handheld so I could easily move back as I zoomed from widest to narrowest focal length. I used the focal length numbers on the lens as selection points. The images range from F2.8 to F8 in full stop increments. The images are all processed using the same settings in Lightroom including sharpening. I realize some people think that lens sharpness should be judged without sharpening applied. My view is that lens performance should be judged based on how the images will be presented. Sufficient EXIF data is included with each image to help evaluate the various focal lengths and apertures. These images are the size I normally upload for web viewing.
